Ive just released an iPhone game based around the motion tracker in Aliens. Its a simple space invaders style game and you can control it with either the screen, accelerometer or compass. Its had some good feedback so please let me know what you think. http://www.alienhorde.com

Looks amazing, and the site is slick and easy to navigate. Well done Matt! If I had an iPhone, i'd download this in a heartbeat!

I have one. Me not ever designing or developing an iPhone app ever, how long did it take you to create this game? And was it difficult to get it to run on all versions of iPhone/iPod touch? Or is conpatability fairly universal when it comes to apps and stuff?

Fun little game Matt, I like.
Couple questions; what made you come up with the idea, and did you have any others that you perhaps couldn't put into the final app?

@Chris The game took 12 weeks but not full time. Few hours here, few there, a good many lost weekends! Learning a new programming language is hard but im using a framework developed by others which allows me to focus more on the actual game than memory management and really complicated stuff like that.
I had lots of requests and im going to try to develop any reasonable ones. Different aliens is the biggest so far. A fast little facehugger (and maybe a face hugger death sequence) and im looking into a physics engine to power some other things like bullets. It can be a long process though...
It wont run on the original iPhone as it had a really slow processor but it will run on anything else. It downscales the graphics a little for older devices, but nothing noticeable. For testing I had an iPhone 3G, upgraded to a 3GS and bought an iPad. Friends did the rest with their devices.
@G-Sea When the iPhone 3GS came out it had a compass built into it, that gave me the initial idea. Using the compass makes the iPhone act like the real motion sensor, the disk rotates as you turn. it does make the game unplayable though as it would make you very dizzy, very quickly. You can also use the accelerometer so tilting the iPhone turns the radar.
I waned to show damage on the device after an attack and I did hold back on a few other bits as they are not finished or too buggy for release. The older iPhones start to get a bit choppy if i do too much so its about having the idea, building a demo and then testing it across the devices to see what works.

Oh very cool! Thanks. Yeah, different Aliens would be awsome. Bullets to!

I'll be getting an iPhone in the next few months, and you can bet this will be one of the first things I'll download (right after the Predators game).

Well get an iPhone 4 as I will build in gyroscope support for even more realistic gameplay!

Been travelling today, so I played it quite a bit. Additctive wee thing.
I take it you couldn't use the actual motion tracker bleeps/Alien shrieks because of rights?

Thanks SamWon.
I need to get a closer sound for the blips, a few people have sent me film samples but if I use them I would suspect the film would be pulled.
