AvP Spectrum Reviews Predators

Predators as a film really brought back the feel of 1987′s original; Predator. The film features loads of action, and classic gore, balanced with decent acting and a fair amount of story developement. Read on and see why Predators lives up to it’s predecessors:
Characters
All the characters seemed to play off of the characters from Predator. Royce, being like Arnold, Mombasa being like Billy, etc… Isabelle even seemed a bit like Anna with her knowlege of the Predators and her instinctual thoughts, aswell as overall appearance. Just Isabelle carried weapons and wasn’t a hostage. But enough said, you can probably see the similarities yourself if you’ve seen the film.

Some other interresting aspects of the film were the fact that our team of humans were not the only creatures being hunted on this planet. We were introduced to an almost “bird-like” alien. Not much is known about these creatures, but what we do know is that they didn’t last very long and were found skinned and tied up at the Predators base camp not too long after arriving.
The team find themselves free falling to the hard ground below and know nothing of how they got there. All they remember was being in combat before a “bright light” overtook them. Then, one by one, each member wakes up as they’re falling. Royce is the first to be shown in the openning scene of the film, falling. It would seem that his parachute was either time activated or activated by remote because no matter how hard he tried, he could not get it to open. Unfortunately, the chute opens a tad late and Royce makes a rough landing. Some other captives are not so lucky and hit the ground without their parachute ever openning at all.

As the team assembles and we are introduced to all the characters, there’s a sense of comedy about it. I laughed at a few parts. A good balance I would think. But we learn very quickly everyone’s personalities and who the “bad guys” were. Not a whole lot of character developement in my opinion, but enough to get a good feel for everyone.
The Predators
The Predators in Predators are different than our classic “Predator”. These Predators operate on a different level of hunting practices. Honor does not seem to be the focus for this trio. They hunt to learn, rather than gain respect. Some classic values still hold true mind you, they still stalk their prey and put them in situations to test themselves, but alot of the “game” I find was missing, or replaced with just a walk and slaughter.

The tactics used by these Predators were interresting in themselves; using dogs to flush the team out of hiding, using the falcon to scout ahead. Alot different from what we’re used to, where the Predator would stalk their prey by themselves. The “pack mentality” also came into effect with these Predators. The “classes” of Predators were easily destinguishable; the Falconer being the lighter, more agile Predator, the Berserker Predator (or Super Black Predator) being the leader, the brute and the overall bad ass and then we have the Tracker or “Mr. Tusks” who is like the big, tough guy who commands the dogs. Not much is really known about these Predators and the only one we really see develope is the Berserker. View more on the Predator characters here.
